RUTH KOH

Ruth Koh’s paintings represent her emotional response to Appalachia’s diverse landscape. She paints in oil with a palette knife on canvas or linen.  Both real and imagined places, or a combination of the two, provide her with an abundance of subject matter. She is fascinated with the fleeting moments when a cloud is just so, and then shape shifts before her eyes. She paints quickly to achieve a loose, non-literal glimpse of those fleeting moments. Her painting style has been described as, “subtle, evocative . . . almost bordering upon the abstract.”

In addition to Lagerquist Gallery, Koh is represented by B. Deemer Gallery in Louisville, KY, The District Gallery in Knoxville, TN. and the Edward James Gallery in Dandridge,TN,  and she exhibited with Scott Hill in a two-person show at River Gallery in Chattanooga. Koh has sold her work in numerous venues, including invitational exhibits at the Knoxville Museum of Art, regional galleries, juried shows and exhibitions, and solo exhibits. Her work is in many private collections in the Southeast.  Koh is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.

“My oil paintings focus on rural landscapes and fleeting moments in time.  For as long as I can remember, I have collected scenes that have influenced my mood and given me comfort.”
