Jennifer Austin Jennings was born in Dayton, Ohio. She has been an exhibiting artist and art educator for twenty-five years. Her work has been featured in The Artist’s Magazine and garnered many awards. Her love affair with nature provides inspiration for scenic and abstract compositions and nature studies full of life and movement. Jennifer is highly experienced in acrylic and water mediums, and in mixed media. She often works en plein air, or from her own photographs.
Jennifer was educated at The Dayton Art Institute and Sinclair College, Dayton, Ohio. She later studied photography and graphic design at Ohio Institute of Photography & Technology. She currently makes her home in Knoxville, TN, near the mountains she has visited and loved her whole life.
I see life in layers. First there is the visceral movement of shapes and forms, then transparent layers of light and shadow. Next bold spines of under-structure, then the intuitive including or dismissing of details. Finally comes the dawning of soft colors, layered across the foreground and fading to the distant. I paint like this. Choosing versatile acrylic mediums mixed and manipulated with transparent washes, structural applications and broad flat strokes of pure color.
