Deborah Elmquist, a native Floridian, has painted in the realist tradition since 1968 producing art works in the old world style inspired by Rembrandt, Vermeer and other 17th century masters.
She began painting with oils under the instruction of Ralph Bagley, a nationally recognized painter of still lifes and landscapes. Her interest in the chiaroscuro style of painting, which explores light and shadow, led her to study with noted artists around the country.
Though painting in a traditional style and method, Elmquist’s works of art are contemporary in presentation and subject matter, always narrative, and frequently emotional in nature.
