“My work reflects the experience of growing up in the harsh beauty of the desert southwest. Raw, bleached landscapes, beating sun, and drying winds contrasts with the ephemeral beauty of wild flowers and the tentative but indefatigable life force of the desert inhabitants. The desert's stark contrast bares the brutality of this struggle for survival. For me it has become a key metaphor for the human condition and our struggle to find and create meaning in the face of a world that, like the desert, offers little succor. By examining these contrasts I strive to bring into form a distillation of the gestures, aching woes and joys that are the narrative of our lives.”
